What is the assessment process?

The OT Driver Assessment process consists of two appointments:

  1. Initial off road interview to gather information about the client's driving history, where they would like to drive in the future and to complete physcial, sensory, cognitive and road law assessments
  2. On road assessment in a dual control vehicle along a pre-determined, Vic Roads compliant, route

How do I refer a patient?

All OT Driver Assessments must be completed through Vic Roads with supporting medical reports.

In Victoria, a person may retain their licence as long as they are fit to do so. There is no mandatory re-assessment age, however with advancing age, often comes medical conditions that require Vic Roads notification.

Are there rebates available?

You may refer a patient under a Chronic Disease Management Plan, if you feel they meet the necessary criteria. This would entitle them to a Medicare Rebate for each of their appointments.
